Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary

The Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, about 12 km from Kothamangalam (Kerala state, India), is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala This sanctuary is the richest bird habitat on peninsular India. Thattekkad literally means flat forest, and the region is an evergreen low-land forest located between the branches of River Periyar, the longest river in Kerala.

Kalady

Kalady -The birthplace of Adi Sankaracharya, the great Advaita philosopher of the 8th century, Kaladi is 19 km from Aluva. Temples dedicated to Sri Sankara, Sarada Devi, Sri Krishna and Sri Ramakrishna add to the sanctity of the destination. This is the most sacred place in this locality .A place called Crocodile Ghat is where Sri Sankara took his vows of renunciation. According to legends, a crocodile caught hold of him and refused to release him until Sankara’s mother Aryamba permitted him to accept Sanyas (renunciation).

Aluva-The Mahadev Temple

Aluva-The Mahadev Temple is a famous Lord Shiva temple situated south of Aluva, in the Ernakulam District. Thosands of pilgrims visit this place to have the darshan of Lord Mahadeva.The Aluva Mahasivaratri is the most auspicious occasion during which lakhs of people assemble for the rituals and to have the holy dip in the River Periyar.

The Sringeri Mutt

The Sringeri Mutt- The Complex was established on the ruins of the house of Adi Sankara. Located on the northern banks of the Periyar River, this complex is home to various small shrines. This complex was built to commemorate Adi Sankara, who was a great philosopher, saint and the re incarnation of Lord Siva himself.

Athirappilly Water Falls, the most famous waterfall of Kerala, Athirappalli and Vazhachal, is situated at Athirappilly Thaluk in Trissur district of Kerala,India.
